When to Repair vs. Replace a Plumbing Fixture

A dripping faucet can often be repaired, but a fixture that keeps failing or is badly worn is usually better replaced. Here is how to think about the choice.

Repair makes sense for a simple, recent problem on an otherwise sound fixture. Replace when the fixture keeps failing, parts are worn or corroded, or you want a style or efficiency upgrade anyway.

When a repair is enough

A single drip from a relatively new faucet, or a toilet that runs because of one worn internal part, is often a straightforward repair. If the fixture is otherwise in good shape, repairing it is reasonable.

When replacement is the better call

If the same fixture has been repaired more than once, if corrosion or mineral buildup is visible, or if the finish is worn through, replacement usually makes more sense than another repair. The same goes for a fixture you simply do not like anymore.

Our fixture replacement service covers faucets, sinks, toilets, and more.
